Q. How many types of ghusl are there?
A. There are three types: fard, sunnah, and mustahab.
Q. How many fard ghusl are there?
A. There are six. They will be described elsewhere in this book.
Q. How many sunnah types of ghusl are there and what are they?
A. There are four sunnah ghusl:
- Ghusl for Friday prayer
- Ghusl for ‘Eid prayers
- Ghusl before putting on Ihraam for Hajj
- Ghusl for wuqoof at ‘Arafaat
Q. What sorts of ghusl are mustahab?
A. Some mustahab ghusl include:
- Ghusl on the night of 15th Sha’baan
- Ghusl on the night of ‘Arafah (8th Dhul-Hijjah)
- Ghusl for lunar or solar eclipse prayers
- Ghusl for Salaatul-Istisqaa (prayers for rain)
- Ghusl before entering Makkah or Madinah
- Ghusl for the person who bathes the dead
- Ghusl of a kaafir at the time of embracing Islaam
Q. If there is necessity of ghusl and one stands in the rain or dives into a river, will it complete the ghusl?
A. Yes, if water flows over the entire body and one passes water into the mouth and nostrils, the ghusl is completed.
Q. Is it necessary to face qiblah while doing ghusl?
A. No, it is not allowed to face qiblah while naked. It is allowed if the satar (covering) is present.
Q. How to do ghusl with the satar uncovered?
A. It is allowed if done in a bathroom or private place where no one can see the satar.
Q. How many things are Makrooh in ghusl?
A. Three things are makrooh:
- Waste of water
- Talking or facing qiblah while satar is not covered
- Doing wuduu’ against sunnah
Q. If wuduu’ is not done before ghusl, is it necessary after ghusl for prayers?
A. Ghusl completes wuduu’, so it is not necessary to do wuduu’ again.
