Sixth Condition of Salaah: Facing the Qiblah
Q. What is Istiqbaal-e-Qiblah?
A. The act of facing towards the Qiblah is called Istiqbaal-e-Qiblah.
Q. What is meant by its being a condition for the prayer?
A. It is necessary to face the Qiblah when performing prayers.
Q. What is the Qiblah of the Muslims?
A. The Muslims’ Qiblah is the Ka’bah, a small square building in Masjid-al-Haraam, Makkah. It is also called Ka’batullaah (Ka’bah of Allah), Baytullaah (House of Allah), or Baitul-Haraam (Sacred House).
Q. In which direction is the Qiblah?
A. It depends on your location. For India, Burma, and nearby countries, the Qiblah is towards the west because Makkah is in the west. In other places, it may be towards the east.
Q. What if a sick person is not facing the Qiblah and has no strength to move?
A. Another person may help him face the Qiblah if it does not cause pain. If no one is present or it causes great pain, he can pray facing the direction in which he is lying.
