Q. How is it to say salaah without wuduu’ (ablution)?
A. It is a very sinful thing. Some scholars have called such a person a kaafir who knowingly performs prayer without wuduu’.
Q. What is the proof of the necessity of wuduu’ before saying salaah?
A. The Qur’an says: “O you who believe! When you rise up for prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows and lightly rub your heads and (wash) your feet up to the ankles.” (5:6)
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Cleanliness is the key to prayer.”

Q. What is the minimum that may be called washing?
A. Pouring enough water so the part becomes wet and drops fall. Using less water than this is not real washing, and wuduu’ will not be valid.
Q. How many times must the parts be washed whose washing is fard (compulsory)?
A. Washing once is fard, washing three times is sunnah. More than three is not allowed—it is wastage and makrooh.
Q. Washing of what portion of the face is compulsory?
A. From the hairy part of the forehead down under the chin, and from one ear-lobe to the other. If any part remains dry, wuduu’ is incomplete.

A. His wuduu’ will be valid if all parts are washed, but he will not get the blessings of wuduu’.
Q. How to do niyyah for wuduu’?
A. Intend to remove impurity and become pure for prayer. This intention is the niyyah of wuduu’.
Q. Is it necessary to say niyyah aloud?
A. No, thinking it is enough. Saying it aloud is also correct.
Q. If one has wuduu’ but performs a new wuduu’, what should be his niyyah?
A. His intention should be to renew wuduu’ for blessings and increased reward.
Q. Should one say “Bismillaah” in full?
A. Yes, saying it in full or saying: “With the name of the High and Mighty One, and with praise to Allah for the religion of Islam” is correct.
Q. How is it to use miswaak?
A. Miswaak is sunnat-mu’akkadah. Use a Neem or Piloo stick, 8 inches long. Wash before and after use. Apply three times—right, then left side.
Q. How is it to gargle?
A. Gargling is sunnah in wuduu’ and ghusul (not while fasting). Use the right hand to pour water.
Q. What is the method of putting water into the nose?
A. Take water in the right hand, inhale lightly (not deep). During fasting, use hand only.
Q. To do khilaal of what part of the beard is Sunnah?
A. Inner and lower parts. Washing the outer hair is fard.

A. Interlace fingers. For toes, use the left hand’s little finger starting from the little toe of the right foot to the left foot.
