Waajibaat-e-Namaaz

Q. What is meant by Waajibaat-e-Namaaz or WaajibaatusSalaah?

A. Waajibaat are things necessary to complete prayers. Missing any unknowingly can be compensated by Sajdah Sahw. If intentionally missed, the prayer must be repeated entirely.

Q. How many waajibaat are in a namaaz?

A. There are fourteen:

  • Fixing the first two rak’aat of the fard salaah for qira’ah.
  • Reading Surah Faatihah in all rak’aat of every prayer (except 3rd & 4th rak’aat of fard).
  • Reciting a Surah, a long aayah, or 3 short aayaat after Surah Faatihah in the first two rak’aat of fard and all rak’aat of waajib, sunnah, nafl.
  • Reading Surah Faatihah before any other surah or aayah.
  • Maintaining the order of Qira’ah, Rukuu’, Sujood, etc.
  • Qawmah (standing straight) after rukuu’.
  • Jalsah (sitting) between the two sajdahs.
  • Performing ta’deeli arkaan (rukuu’, sajdah, etc.) patiently.
  • Qa’dah-e-Oolaa (sitting to say Tashahhud) after 2 rak’aat in 3 or 4 rak’aat prayers.
  • Reading Tashahhud in both Qa’dahs.
  • For the imaam to recite Qira’ah aloud in Fajr, Maghrib, ‘Ishaa, Jumu’ah, ‘Eid, and Taraaweeh. Low voice for Zuhr & ‘Asr.
  • To disperse after salaam of the prayer.
  • Takbeer for Qunoot in Witr prayers and reading Du’aa-e-Qunoot.
  • Additional takbeeraat in the ‘Eid prayers.
