Makroohaat-e-Namaaz
Q. How many things are makrooh (detested) in prayers?
A. Some of the makroohaat in salaah are:
- Sadal, or hanging of cloth improperly
- To sweep with hands to prevent clothes from soiling
- Playing with clothes or body parts
- Saying prayers in disliked clothes
- Prayers with a coin or object in the mouth
- Praying bare-headed (men)
- Praying when needing the bathroom
- Gathering hair into a pig-tail
- Removing pebbles in sajdah (allowed once)
- Cracking fingers or putting fingers inside fingers
- Hands over waist or back hips
- Turning face away from Qiblah
- Sitting like a dog (hands on ground)
- Arms/wrists on ground in sajdah (men)
- Praying while another person sits in front
- Replying to greetings with head/hand motion
- Sitting cross-legged without excuse
- Yawning knowingly without restraint
- Closing eyes unnecessarily (allowed if focusing heart)
- Imaam standing under mihraab (arch)
- Imaam standing alone one handspan high
- Standing alone behind a row with vacant front space
- Praying in clothes with living pictures
- Praying under/near pictures on wall or sajdah place
- Counting aayaat, surahs, or tasbeehs on fingers
- Praying with sheet/clothes wrapped tightly
- Yawning and stretching arms to remove laziness
- Sajdah on turban rolls
- Doing something against Sunnah in prayer
