Q. Mustahab / Sunnah on ‘Eid days?

A.(1) Take a bath & do miswaak. (2) Wear best clothes. (3) Use scent. (4) Eat dates or sweets before ‘Eid-ul-Fitr prayer. (5) Give sadaqat-ul-fitr before prayer. (6) Eat one’s sacrifice meat after ‘Eid-ul-Adha prayer. (7) Say prayer at Eidgah. (8) Go on foot. (9) Go by one route, return by another. (10) No nafl at home/Eidgah before or after Eid prayers.

Q. Takbeer for ‘Eid-ul-Fitr?

A. Say takbeer in low voice. For ‘Eid-ul-Adha, men say takbeer aloud on the way.

Q. Are ‘Eid prayers waajib or sunnah?

A. Waajib for those who must perform Jum’ah. Khutbah after prayer is sunnah; not required before.

Q. Rak’aat and how to say Eid prayers?

A. Two rak’aat. Niyyah: “I am going to say ‘Eid prayer waajib with six extra takbeeraat.” Fold hands after takbeer-e-tahreemah, say thanaa, raise hands for extra takbeers, recite Surah Faatihah & another surah aloud, then rukuu’. Second rak’ah similar with four takbeers before rukuu’. After prayer, Imaam delivers two khutbahs (short pause between is masnoon).

Q. Special instructions for ‘Eid-ul-Adha?

A.(1) Takbeer aloud on way to Eidgah. (2) Do not eat before prayer. (3) Takbeeraat-e-tashreeq are waajib.

Q. What is meant by takbeeraat-e-tashreeq?

A. Takbeeraat recited after fard prayers during days of Tashreeq.

Q. Days of Tashreeq?

A. 11th, 12th, 13th of Dhul-Hijjah.

Q. When are takbeeraat-e-tashreeq waajib?

A. From Fajr of 9th Dhul-Hijjah (Day of Arafah) to Asr of 13th Dhul-Hijjah. Women do not say aloud. Muqtadis must say even if Imaam forgets.

Q. What is takbeer-e-tashreeq & how often?

A.“Allâh is the greatest; Allâh is the greatest; There is no god except Allâh; And Allâh is the greatest; Allâh is the greatest; And for Allâh is all praise.” Waajib once after every fard prayer.
