Q. What is Sajdah Tilaawah?

A. Tilaawah means recitation. Certain points in the Qur’aan necessitate sajdah, called Sajdah Tilaawah.

A. Fourteen points in the Qur’aan, also called the Fourteen Sajdahs.

Q. How to perform Sajdah outside prayer?

A. Preferred: stand, say takbeer, go into sajdah, then stand again with takbeer. Can also be done sitting. Delay is makrooh.

Q. Conditions of Sajdah Tilaawah?

A. Same as salaah:

  • Clean body, place, and clothes
  • Covering of satar
  • Facing the qiblah
  • Niyyah for sajdah tilaawah

A. Same things that make the prayer faasid.

Q. If an aayah of sajdah is recited multiple times?

A. Only one sajdah tilaawah is waajib per aayah, even if read multiple times in a gathering.

Q. If two aayaat of sajdah are read?

A. A sajdah is waajib for each different aayah or each gathering where a single aayah is read.

Q. If aayah of sajdah is skipped?

A. Skipping it is makrooh (extremely disliked).

Q. Reading aayah in low voice for others?

A. Allowed, and in such situations, even better to recite in low voice so others don’t hear.
