Tawheed (The Oneness of Allâh)

Q. What is meant by the word Allâh?
A. Allâh is the name of the Being Who is Waajibul-Wujood, and Who is the embodiment of all the Sifaat-e-Kamaaliyah.

Q. What is meant by Waajibul-Wujood?
A. Waajibul-Wujood is the Eternal Being whose presence is necessary and whose absence is impossible. He is self-existent, having no beginning or end. Only Allâh is Waajibul-Wujood.

Q. What is meant by Sifaat-e-Kamaaliyah?
A. These are the perfect qualities that belong to Allâh, such as power, knowledge, and life. They are essential to His being Waajibul-Wujood.

Q. What being is called Qadeem?
A. The being that has existed from all time and will remain forever. Only Allâh and His qualities are Qadeem.

Q. When nothing existed, how did Allâh create the heavens and earth?
A. By His command and power. He needs nothing to create, for He is Waajibul-Wujood and independent of all things.

Q. What are the Sifaat-e-Kamaaliyah of Allâh?
A. Some are: Wahdat (Oneness), Qidam (Eternal existence), Hayaat (Life), Qudrat (Power), ‘Ilm (Knowledge), Iraadah (Will), Sam’a (Hearing), Basar (Seeing), Kalaam (Speech), Khulq (Creation), and Takween (Bringing into existence).

Q. What is Sifat-e-Wahdat?
A. Wahdat means oneness — Allâh is unique in His being and attributes. Tawheed is believing in this Oneness.

Q. What is Sifat-e-Qidam and Wujoob-e-Wujood?
A. Qidam means being eternal; Wujoob-e-Wujood means existence that is necessary and self-existent.

Q. What is meant by Azali and Abadi?
A. Azali means having no beginning; Abadi means having no end. Allâh is both — everlasting.

Q. What is Hayaat?
A. Hayaat means life. Allâh is ever-living and does not die.

Q. What is Sifat-e-Qudrat?
A. Qudrat means power. Allâh is All-Powerful — He creates, maintains, and destroys at His will.

Q. What is Sifat-e-‘Ilm?
A. ‘Ilm means knowledge. Allâh knows everything — nothing is hidden from Him.

Q. What is Iraadah?
A. Iraadah means will or intention. Everything happens by Allâh’s will and power.

Q. What is Sifat-e-Sam’a and Sifat-e-Basar?
A. Sam’a means hearing; Basar means seeing. Allâh hears and sees all things without needing eyes or ears.

Q. What is Sifat-e-Kalaam?
A. Kalaam means speech. Allâh speaks without a tongue or sound — His speech is beyond human comparison.

Q. What is Sifat-e-Khalq and Takween?
A. Khalq means creation, and Takween means bringing into existence. Allâh is the Creator and Originator of all.

Q. Are there more qualities of Allâh?
A. Yes, Allâh has countless eternal qualities — He gives life and death, grants honor and disgrace, and sustains creation.
